From the footage captured by Allied forces liberating Nazi concentration camps, through landmark works like Claude Lanzmann’s Shoah and Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List, to contemporary discussions around Holocaust-related content on platforms such as TikTok, media has consistently been central to public communication and remembrance of the Holocaust. Looking ahead, the media landscape is widely predicted to undergo radical changes, with trends like extreme personalization, immersive experiences, increased participation, and new forms of social engagement on the horizon.
Dr. Ingo Zechner, Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital History (LBIDH) and coordinator of the HE project Visual History of the Holocaust, will reflect on how these evolving media trends might shape Holocaust remembrance and education, and what potential opportunities they may offer.
